Temple Coalition for the Fine Arts FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: CONNIE MATTHEWS APRIL 29, 2008 254-774-8450 Eighth Annual Candidate Forum Scheduled Temple Coalition for the Fine Arts Hosts Annual Event The eighth annual Temple Coalition for the Fine Arts Candidate Forum is scheduled 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Meridith-Dunbar Elementary School, 1717 East Avenue J. This “Meet the Candidates” event will provide an opportunity for the general public to pose questions to candidates for both the Temple Independent School District (TISD) Board of Trustees and the Temple City Council. Event moderator, former TISD teacher Jim Kerby, will pose questions submitted by audience members. TISD District 2 candidates, incumbent Dorothy Powell and challenger Mary Lee Loving, will take part in the forum. The three city of Temple District 2 council candidates, Patsy Luna (incumbent), Mia McBride and Robert M. Martin, will also participate. As the TISD District 7 seat as well as both the Temple mayoral and District 3 races are uncontested, those candidates will not take part. “With having hosted a candidate forum since the 2001 founding of our organization, we take pride in this tradition,” Sheila Dobin, Temple Coalition for the Fine Arts president, said. “The forums have become an important vehicle offering TISD parents as well as other Temple residents and business community members the opportunity to learn more about prospective local leaders.” The mission of the Temple Coalition for the Fine Arts (TCFA) is to be an advocate for Fine Arts (dance, music, theatre and visual arts) education in the Temple Schools and community. The Temple Instrumental Music Exchange (TIME) is an initiative of TCFA which matches donated instruments and other musical equipment to deserving students in the Temple Independent School District (TISD). |
